ELIGIBILITY:

Must be:
(1) a United States Citizen
(2) born female, single, never married, and have never conceived a child and be of good character.
(3) at least seventeen (17) years of age at the time of her first appearance in local pageant she is entering
(4) no older than twenty-four (24) years of age as of September 30th, 2008.
(5) a high school graduate or have successfully completed the G.E.D. testing program, or have successfully completed the academic
requirements for entry into a four year college/university degree program by July 30th, 2008; and must be able to provide
proof thereof upon request.
(6) a resident of the state of Texas for a minimum of 6 months prior to the first day of her local competition OR
must have completed one full semester as a full-time student of an accredited Texas college or University for at least one full
semester enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours or the maximum required for the degree plan chosen.

If you held a Miss America local title during the 2007 pageant season and either resigned your title or lost your title for some
reason, you may not be eligible to compete in a Miss America local pageant again until the 2009 pageant season. Please
contact the director prior to entering.

FEES:

The fee to enter the Miss White Settlement/ Miss Arlington Pageant for 2008 is a $100.00
donation in your name to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). This fee must be paid by
going to
and registering as a new contestant. If you registered and competed last year,
use a new ID to avoid confusion. Register under Miss White Settlement 2008
with a $100.00 goal and then send e-mails out to all of your friends from the same sight to let
them know how they can donate and help you reach your goal. When you register, print your
receipt showing you have registered. When you reach your $100.00 goal, print the receipt again
and send it to us to put with your paperwork. Be sure you keep a copy for your records also.
You will not be allowed to compete without this receipt on file

PLATFORM STATEMENT:
This is not a separate judged event, but each contestant will have a chosen platform or issue of concern that she will promote
during her year of service to White Settlement. This should be an issue that she feels very passionate about raising awareness
for and to make changes for the better. This issue will be discussed in interview with the judges. If you have any questions about
choosing a platform, please don't hesitate to contact us for guidance.

Please note that the Miss America Organization also works closely with the Children's Miracle Network and you will be doing some work in this area and should familiarize yourself with this charity and the work that they do.


PERSONAL INTERVIEW:

In the Interview portion of the competition each contestant converses with the judges on a variety of topics, from
frivolous trivia to serious political and social issues. The contestant is awarded points for being well spoken,
polite, articulate, and confident.
Contestants should wear a dress, business suit or pantsuit which would be suitable for a professional interview.
The interview will be conducted by the contestant walking to the platform or podium and awaiting the judges first question. There will
be no opening statement by the contestant. Questions will be asked about their chosen platform, or something to let the judges
know who you are as a person. At the end of the question and answer period, the Miss Contestant will be allowed to make
a closing statement no longer than 30 seconds if they wish.
Qustions from the judges will be asked "press conference style", in no particular order and are open to any subject.
Interviews will be ten (10) minutes in lenth including closing statements.

Local pageant rules may change prior to pageant date due to Miss America rule changes.

LIFESTYLE AND FITNESS (SWIMWEAR):

The title of this category was changed in recent years to more accurately reflect what the judges are looking for.
Judging for this category focuses on overall physical fitness, poise, and posture.
Contestants model in their swimwear. Swimwear for Miss contestant may either
be a one piece or two piece swimsuit, but no string bikinis or thongs. Wear a suit syle appropriate for your body.
No hose may be worn during this category. Contestants may not wear oil on their legs. Earrings are optional.


TALENT:

In the talent competition, the contestant performs live onstage in front of judges and an audience. Presentations may be
any type of talent, though singing and dancing are most common. Talent presentations may
not exceed two minutes (2:00) in length and will be timed. Only the contestant will
be permitted on stage during her talent presentation. No other person can be part of her presentation.
Talent presentations must be performed live. Talent presentations that are prohibited include any use of fireworks,
fire, swords, knives, machetes, bow and arrow acts, live animals, or liquids of any type, or any talent viewed as potentially
dangerous to the contestant or audience.

EVENING GOWN:

In Evening Gown competition, the contestants are judged on poise and bearing as they walk across the stage, as well as the fit and appropriateness of the gown. They wear
floor length evening gowns appropriate to the individual contestant. Please check your dress front and back in a mirror to be certain of proper fit and coverage. If your gown has a split anywhere from the bottom, please make sure it isn't cut too high.

ON STAGE INTERVIEW:

On stage question and answer will be a single question asked onstage in front of an audience. Contestants are judged on poise,
confidence, whether or not they answered the question (not necessarily the content), and how well they conveyed their
answer, being articulate.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible to compete in a 2007 Local pageant, the contestant must:

(1) be born female, single, never been married, never conceived a child and be of good character.
(2) be a United States citizen
(3) be between the ages of 13 and 17
(4) be in the 8th -11th grades, may be starting her senior year of high school in the following fall.
(5) not have graduated from high school before the National Finals, except for 16 year olds who graduate early
(6) not turn 18 years of age on or before the August 31 of the pageant year you are competing for (2008)
(7) reside in or be enrolled in and attending classes on a full-time basis in an accredited school or home schooling program
(8) be a resident of the state of Texas for a minimum of 6 months prior to the first day of her local competition OR
have completed one full semester as a full-time student in the state of Texas.

Contestant must be no more than a Junior classification in high school unless you are a 16 year old or younger Senior and won’t turn 17 until after the last Miss Texas preliminary is held. In this instance, you are not eligible for the Miss Texas division and may compete as a Teen for one more year.

ENTRY FEE:

Entry fee is $100.00 (subject to change due to Miss America Rule changes) payable in advance of the scheduled pageant date using Cashier's Check, or Money Order.

Judging for this category focuses on overall physical fitness, energy, and presence.
Contestant will wear an aerobic or workout top of her choice but no “bra STRAP” style
tops. Any color, print, or pattern is acceptable but no logos (Nike Check, Adidas, etc).
No glitz or rhinestones.
Contestants will wear black aerobic or jazz shorts with a 3” inseam. These must be solid
black with no other color and no logo.
Footwear must be solid white “Keds” style tennis shoes with no socks.
No hose may be worn during the Aerobic Wear competition.
Contestants may not wear oil on their legs.
Stud earrings only may be worn. No other jewelry.

The Miss White Settlement Scholarship Organization is looking for young women who are not only leaders in
and out of their school atmosphere, but also high achievers both academically as well as in their everyday life. These young women are usually highly involved in sports, church, volunteering, and giving back to their community.
